A new leaf - Part three
Well, we had to turn in the third installment of our "line" this morning. I was up working on it until about 2:00 in the morning. UGH! This one turned out okay. There are some things I really like about it and some things that I don't. I am not super keen on the bail, but I tried three different times to solder one on and all I ever ended up with is 3 melted blobs that weren't anywhere near attached. It was rather frustrating.
It didn't turn out at all how I originally intended for it to look, but hey, I finished it about 6 hours before class and that was all that mattered. HAHAHA Besides, the instructor wants me to do one more. Yipeeee - *yawn* So watch for "A new leaf - Part four" on Wednesday.

It looks like we might be adding a new class to the schedule at Grand River Beads on November 10. We would like to do the copper cuff bracelet. I will post here to let you know if it happens.

On class entry #3, could you describe how you did the main piece. Is it sawed the shape of the back and then a bordering wire soldered onto the front (what gauge?). Your work is amazingly creative--I am sure you are "ranking your class!" thanks, stefanie

Hey Stefanie,
I will do my best to explain a little....
First I die formed the piece making it puff out a bit. Then I cut out the main shape leaving a bit around the edges. I believe I cut out the main pieces at this time then I forged the sterling wires that would become the border and soldered them on. I believe this was 14 gauge round wire. Once the main frame was completed I began to wrap with 21 gauge square wire for the viney pattern you see on the piece.
I would like to think that I am "ranking my class," But I am not so sure.
