Okay, Just One More
Well, the computer will be taken down tomorrow. I made them wait till the very last minute. hehe
Today the movers came. This is what it looked like out my bedroom window.
The truck is HUGE! In fact, we will also be placing my husband's car on there. We are happy about this as we will have his car at the same time our items arrive. That is a huge bonus. The movers are great. We really like the crew that is taking care of things for us.
Yesterday I had a "Clean out the fridge" party. It was so nice to see so many people, and get my fridge cleaned out at the same time. Tonight had to be one of the hardest for me though. I said good bye to one of my very best friends, Valerie. That made it all so real. My heart broke and now the tears won't stop. I am so grateful for the day and age we live in. I am so grateful for the internet, and even the super evil FaceBook. Texting and Skype are great friends of mine and we are about to get even closer.
So the studio is completely done now. We just need to move things out and sweep up the room, touch up the paint, shut off the lights and go. I know this is going to be a great experience. I know it will, but it is always so hard to leave friends behind. So hard.
Okay, I really will get off this computer so it can be taken apart and packed up. See you all on the other side of this trip.... and country.

My heart goes out to you and yours as you embark on this next step. We did something similar in '83 and it was a challenge. While we have never regretted the choice, we haven't considered doing it again. It just such a disruption, to everything! Smile, breath deep and go forth!

Oh, I hear you there. I think we figured that we have moved about 8 times in the last 15 years. But I have never had a studio before. The worst part of this all is that I know we have to do it again in the next year or so since we are only going into a rental. Sigh, I guess we are just getting good at moving.

Best wishes and many blessings on your new home, Melissa. It's a terrible wrench, leaving your friends behind. My best friend is in the Vancouver area and I live on the opposite coast, and I have another two "forever" friends two provinces away. But Skype and email is a wonderful thing, and you'll find that the Vancouver/Washington area is a great place to visit and doesn't require much pursuading. Good luck!

Susan, it is a hard situation to be in. On one hand, I am so excited for this new adventure and possibilities, but on the other I am leaving some of the best friends I have ever known. I have done so much here in Ohio and met so many great people it is heartbreaking. But I have been told that I will have visitors, I sure hope so. ;

Joy, mine too. :*( just tonight I took EVERYTHING out and mopped the floor, washed the walls and scrubbed the sink. The studio is now just an empty room, with beautiful light fixtures. Lol. This still doesn't seem real.

I just discovered your web page in November 2011 and have enjoyed you immensely, since then. I've even shared your Tool Day column with my metalsmithing class here in Tucson, Arizona. Believe it or not, my class went to Potter's warehouse for a demo of his hydraulic press just before Christmas and it was there that I found out about your connection with him AND that you were moving from Ohio! Anyway, know you're too busy to read a long post--but, wanted you to know that I've never met a more friendly and generous, and talented artist. You're willing to share so many ideas and tips that are needed by us beginner metalsmiths. Maybe one day my husband and I will be in your neck of the woods and I can stop by and take a class! That would be fun! (from a 73 year old admirer)

Gloria, that totally made my day. Thank you so much. Thank you also for sharing my blog. I appreciate it. Kevin is great. I am really enjoying working with him. Next year I plan to come to Tucson and will be teaching some workshops with Kevin. And if you ever are in my neck of the woods, I would love to have you over for a class. I hope I can get a studio up and going where I am able to teach again soon.
